The Indian Rocks Beach area has a long history going back centuries when Native Americans came here to fish and rest near a spring that they believed had special healing properties. Indian Rocks Beach was explored in the 1800s, and the first bridge between the Pinellas County mainland and Indian Rocks Beach was built in 1916. Indian Rocks Beach continued to be developed in the 1920s as a weekend getaway for Tampa Bay area residents. Indian Rocks neighbor to the north is Belleair Beach and to the south is Indian Shores. Indian Rocks Beach was incorporated in 1956 and Indian Rock Beach's primary industry is tourism.
